How Do I Know If My Teeth Are Really Clean?

There's something about running your tongue over your silky-smooth teeth that is very satisfying. If you want to maintain your amazingly clean teeth during the time between dental visits, here are some tips.

Brushing

To help with your sparkling white teeth, start with your toothbrush. First, you will want to change to a new toothbrush around every three months. You want to make sure you choose soft bristles. Brushing with a hard-bristled toothbrush can not only damage your gums, but it can also brush away the enamel that protects your teeth and makes them look white. You should brush twice a day every day, but you can brush after every meal or snack. Daily brushing goes a long way towards great oral hygiene.

Flossing

In addition to brushing, you will want to floss at least twice a day. Flossing helps keep plaque and tartar off your teeth. Both plaque and tartar are by-products of bacteria that live in your mouth and help you digest food. When you floss, you remove plaque from your gumline, which means it can't harden into tartar and discolor your teeth. Flossing also removes food particles from between your teeth that can cause tooth decay as well.

Dental Cleanings

The best way you can ensure that your teeth look great in between dental visits is to make sure your teeth are thoroughly cleaned every six months. Dental cleanings allow your teeth to be deep cleaned and polished, which helps keep them healthy, strong, and beautiful. Getting your teeth cleaned also means the dentist can check your teeth for any problems that may be lurking in your mouth. For example, you may need advice on brushing your molars correctly in order to rid your teeth of plaque. If you haven't been going to a dentist every six months, now is a good time to start.
